Manufacturer carbon reports
Smartphone carbon footprints for refurbishers
Smartphone reports can give different totals for different storage capacities within one model. The iPhone 13 example below applies to 128GB. Its production, shipping, use and end-of-life shares describe Apple's original product scenario.
What to check for this category
- Check the model generation and storage capacity; do not substitute the Pro, mini or another capacity without its source.
- Record battery and screen replacements, repair operations, packaging and transport for the refurbished device.
- Choose a supported remaining service period and an equivalent new-device reference before modelling reuse. The published original footprint is not the refurbishment footprint.
Reviewed model reports
Apple iPhone 13, 128GB
Apple reports 64 kg CO₂e for the iPhone 13 128GB reference lifecycle, with 81% production. Keep storage variants and second-life scenarios separate.
iPhone 13, 128GB storage; US configuration. Does not represent the mini, Pro, Pro Max or other storage capacities.
Inspect reportHow these sources are used
Apple's source states a general first-owner use assumption of three or four years according to product type without an explicit model-specific duration here. The unknown duration is preserved.
Why this is a selected library
Only individually reviewed primary reports with an identifiable configuration, lifecycle boundary and traceable source are published here. Missing uncertainty is disclosed. Conflicting records and unreviewed catalog entries do not become public model pages. This library is a reviewed selection, not the full CarbonTrace catalog.
Turn a source into a documented calculation
Check the exact device, country, remaining service life and refurbishment activities in the calculator. Keep a modelled reuse comparison separate from an emissions inventory and support each customer-facing claim with its own evidence.
The calculator requires an account. A manufacturer report is readable without registration.
