Carbon accounting

CarbonTrace started because the existing options were wildly expensive, suspiciously opaque, or both. So we built one that wasn't. Every emission factor traceable, every number sourceable, every result fast enough to use in actual workflows.
How we got here
The problem
Running IT asset operations and needing carbon footprint numbers for customer reports. Options on the table: expensive LCA studies, black-box calculators, or an Excel file that grew increasingly load-bearing.
The engine
Built a PAIA-aligned parametric carbon engine covering 48 IT asset categories, verified every emission factor against EU primary sources, and realised the tool was useful well beyond one operation.
CarbonTrace
Wrapped the engine in an API, added a dashboard, shipped certificate generation, and launched carbontrace.cloud. Now serving ITAD operators and enterprise sustainability teams across Europe.

Make carbon accounting for IT assets boring.
Not “disruptive.” Not “reimagining the future of ESG.” Boring — like accounting should be. Reliable, auditable, and quiet enough that nobody has to think about it more than necessary. The planet needs numbers people actually use in their workflows. That's what we build.
Four principles, non-negotiable

Accuracy beats coverage
One category with perfect EU MEErP data beats fifty with estimates. Every factor ships with a source URL and a publication year, or it doesn't ship.
Show the sources
If we can't cite it, we don't ship it. Full provenance on every emission factor — your auditor is welcome to check the homework.
Built for the question
Every feature assumes someone will eventually ask “where did this number come from?” The answer should never be “we're not sure.”
API before dashboard
Endpoints before forms. If you can curl it, you can automate it. The engineer in the room shouldn't have to click through a UI.
The one rule
Zero invented data. 100% citeable to primary sources. No exceptions, no asterisks, no “we estimated based on similar products.”
