FAQ
The questions that come up most. Honest answers, no hedging.
How accurate are the numbers?
Within ±5% of published manufacturer PCFs on the cohort we calibrate against (Dell, Lenovo, HP). For categories where the manufacturer doesn’t publish, the parametric model uses peer-reviewed research and converges on the published peers we do have. Every result links to the source paper.
Is this CSRD-compliant?
The methodology aligns with GHG Protocol Scope 3 (Categories 1 and 11), ISO 14040/14067, and PAIA. The output formats plug into ESRS E1 reporting without manual reshaping. CSRD itself is a reporting framework — we provide the numbers and the methodology trail; your auditor signs off on the report.
Does the data live in the EU?
Yes. Primary database in Frankfurt (Supabase, eu-west-1). Payments via Mollie (Dutch). Email via Resend. Edge functions occasionally serve from non-EU regions for latency, with Standard Contractual Clauses in place.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Click cancel in Settings → Billing. That’s the entire process. Data stays accessible for 30 days afterwards.
What happens at my plan limit?
The dashboard tells you. Nothing breaks, nothing locks, nothing gets deleted. Upgrade or wait for next month’s reset — existing calculations and certificates stay exactly where you left them.
Do you support [my unusual device category]?
Probably. 48 IT asset categories across 12 groups. If we don’t have it yet and you can point us at a peer-reviewed source for the emission factor, we’ll add it. We don’t ship categories with invented data, so "please add this" without sources gets a polite delay.
Can I white-label certificates?
Yes — Business plan and above. Your logo, your colour, your footer details on every certificate, plus on the public verification page.
What about API rate limits?
Free: no API access. Pro: 1,000 requests/day. Business: 10,000/day. Enterprise: unlimited (with a fair-use policy that nobody has ever triggered). Limits reset at midnight UTC. The API returns X-RateLimit-Remaining on every response.
Can I self-host?
Not currently. The data pipeline (factor updates, source verification, calibration) is harder to ship as an installable than the calculator itself. If self-hosting is a hard requirement for your org, talk to us — Enterprise customers occasionally get a private deployment.
Where do I report a problem?
/contact, or email hello@carbontrace.cloud. We read every message that lands and update the docs based on what you ask.
